The Bollywood Awards Merry-Go-Round
27
September

This year has been outstanding for entertainment industry, with the biggest releases in past five years. Whether it’s in terms of entertainment or revenue film fraternity has generated and made lot of money.
But, the success of these films is going to lead to a great tussle between the Superstars in terms of awards. Every year the biggest question popping into the minds of audience, as well as people in film industry is, who will bag the award for the best actor.
Though the curiosity, for female lead is not much still (one could say that female actors in Bollywood are yet to get that kind of hype). But in this year, 2006, the award functions are really going to be tough, or rather, intriguing.
If on one side we have, Mr. Perfectionist, Aamir Khan with two releases, Rang De Basanti and Fanaa, and both of them have generated very remarkable responses, then on the other side we have Hrithik Roshan’s super hit, Krrish, and Dhoom 2 , which will be releasing in November.
We cant forget Shahrukh Khan in this race. His bag is equally full with the success of Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna (KANK) and expectations from the remake of Don, “The Don !!
But, but, but, the story doesn’t end here, because its Sanjay Dutt’s Lage Raho Munna Bhai which leads the race in terms of pure entertainment value and were sure that Salman Khan is also not way back in this rat race. Hes going to rock the nation on Diwali with his release Jaaneman followed by Ravi Chopra’s Babul.
Also, we cant overlook Abhishek Bachchan whose Umrao Jaan and Guru are set to release, though his performance in KANK has won him the maximum accolades! Are we are being a little partial in ignoring Akshay Kumar, John Abraham and others who deserve their share in these awards functions? Perhaps.
Well, were still not considering the low budget films that have churned out good revenue. Now who will be the winner, that’s really a big question for Bollywood this year, no?
So now it’s Aamir v/s Shahrukh v/s Hrithik v/s Sanjay Dutt v/s Salman. Who do YOU think deserves this crown?

Well… its very tricky, but my vote goes to Aamir Khan for Rang De Basanti, even though there are many candidates for the “crown”… Sanjay Dutt has once again portrayed the role of Munnabhai with utmost perfection, Ajay Devgan did pretty well in Omkara, Hrithik has already had a superhit to his credit and Dhoom 2 is also expected to create waves throughout the nation but all said and done Rang De Basanti is by far the best film of this year if not of this decade. Aamir’s subtle portrayal of a confused and cocooned Diljeet in rang de basanti is beyond any competition. Simplicity is hard to achieve at 70mm, and full credit goes to Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra and Aamir for a film that asserts the viewers to realize what they havent done for their country without being preachy and rhetoric… The bottom line is that despite some great films and amazing performances, there is no competition this time around coz Rang De Basanti has already painted the whole nation!!

well the best thing about today’s Bollywood is everybody is carving a niche for themselves.Today’s filmmakers and audience both are pretty mature to pick up and choose, and thats why we have varied styles of filmmaking and subjects too.
I think this year the award is most likely to be picked up by Rang de Basanti.Mostly because of its very creative blending of the past and present India, for bringing about a semblance of varied thoughts for today’s audience…
This film infact unlike a Bollywood film had lot of heroes or ‘protagonists’.Each character was special and important for the script, and thats the difference…..
Aamir deserves to get an award for sure but I do feel bad that the other actors might just miss the awards for not being able to fit in to any ‘main hero’ category! Is anybody listening?
